Audio slideshow: Jazz artist

Artist Gina Southgate was artist in residence at The Sage in Gateshead during the venue's recent International Jazz Festival.

Inspired by the visual characteristics of instruments as well as the passion of musicians, she works quickly to capture the sounds, sights and spirit of the jazz and improvised music scene in her live artwork.

Ryan Quigley and Paul Towndrow of the Scottish National Jazz Orchestra worked closely with youth band Jambone for a special performance at the Festival, where Southgate was on hand to capture the action.
