Singer and actress Bonnie Langford is to appear on the Broadway stage for the first time in 35 years.

The 44-year-old, who was last seen in a New York production as a child in Gypsy, will star in musical Chicago.

Langford will play Roxie Hart in the hit show as a member of the show's summer line-up.

The performer is also well-known for her small screen roles, including a stint on Doctor Who and ITV's celebrity TV show Dancing on Ice.

Ringlets

Langford's last Broadway stint was as Baby June in the 1974 revival of Gypsy at the Winter Garden Theatre, where she was transferred after a West End production.

The show also toured theatres around the US.

As a child star, she was best remembered as Violet Elizabeth Bott in the TV adaptation of Just William, where she sported ringlets and a pronounced lisp.

In more recent years, Langford played Hart in the London production of Chicago in 2006 and has also appeared in West End stage shows including Cats and 42nd Street.

The performer's niece, Scarlett Strallen, is also starring on Broadway as Mary Poppins.

Her sister Summer played the leading role of Maria in The Sound of Music in the West End until the production came to a close in February.
