Madonna plans Brixton date
Madonna with singer Sheryl Crow
Chelsea girl: Madonna with Sheryl Crow at a Los Angeles party for her new album
Pop superstar Madonna is set to play her first gig in seven years at the Brixton Academy in south London, her agent has said.

The 42-year-old performer - who gave birth to her second child, Rocco, last month - is thinking of choosing the venue as part of a short world tour to promote her new album Music.

Agent Barbara Charone said: "Madonna will probably be doing a date in November at the Brixton Academy but we have not yet confirmed a date."

The Academy holds 4,200 people - a far cry from the arenas and stadiums Madonna is used to playing.

But it is also one of the capital's best-loved venues, and has also played host to U2, Bob Dylan and the Rolling Stones in the past.

Surprise dates

The show would be her first in the UK since September 1993. She is reported to have chosen the venue with her British boyfriend, film director Guy Ritchie.

Earlier this month, she told Rolling Stone magazine that she was planning surprise club dates in London and New York.

"I like the idea of doing that, and playing to 2,000 to 5,000 people," she said.

Music went straight to the top of the UK album charts on Sunday after selling over 300,000 copies.
