Eminem reaches custody agreement
Eminem
In the spotlight: It has been a troubled year for Eminem
Rap star Eminem has reached an agreement with his estranged wife to share custody of the couple's five-year-old daughter.

The chart-topping artist also pledged to continue giving financial support to Kimberly Mathers, providing a driver for her and returning her credit cards.

In return, he will have joint access to their daughter, Haile Jade.

In addition, it is believed he and Kimberly have reached a settlement over a $10m (6.8m) legal action filed by her over lyrics to a song featured on her husband's latest album.

Troubles

Eminem, real name Marshall Mathers III, has been beset with troubles this year, despite enjoying huge success musically.

In January he was sued by his grandmother, Betty Kresin, for using his dead uncle's voice on a track - three months after his mother filed a $10m claim for defamation.

Debbie Mathers-Briggs says he bad-mouthed her on record and in a magazine article. He recently rejected a $2m (1.4m) settlement offer from her.

Eminem, also faces allegations of assault with a dangerous weapon and carrying a concealed weapon, following incidents in June and the following month Kimberly was reported to have made a suicide attempt.

He filed for divorce earlier this month after casting doubts over her fidelity.

Despite all his problems, the 28-year-old Grammy winner has quickly become established as the world's biggest rap star.

His second album, The Marshall Mathers LP, topped the charts on both sides of the Atlantic and is reportedly in contention to make his acting debut as a villain in Denzil Washington's new movie.
