Darius Campbell is to appear in his first opera, taking a principal role in a performance of Bizet's Carmen at London's O2 arena.

He will take the role of toreador Escamillo on 23 May - the last day of a three-performance production of Carmen, the venue's first staging of an opera.

In February, the 29-year-old singer won ITV1 show Popstar To Operastar.

Campbell, who recently changed his name from Darius Danesh, first found fame in reality shows Popstars and Pop Idol.
