Sacha Baron Cohen sketch axed from Oscars

The sketch will no longer take place on Sunday night

A sketch to be performed by Borat star Sacha Baron Cohen at Sunday's Oscar ceremony has been axed, reports say.

According to the New York magazine, an Academy Awards spokesman confirmed that the British actor was no longer scheduled to perform at the Oscars.

It is thought he had planned to poke fun at James Cameron's film Avatar in a comedy routine with Ben Stiller.

The actor's agent told the magazine's website the decision had been made because of "creative differences".

"I hate to use the term, because it's so ubiquitous, but there were 'creative differences'," Matt Labov said.

"Nothing acrimonious, but both sides felt that since they couldn't agree, [Cohen] might as well remain in London."

Confrontation

It is understood that the Ali G star had planned to appear on stage as one of Avatar's fictional blue-skinned female Na'vi characters, with Stiller translating what she was saying.

After a while, Sacha Cohen would become angry and reveal he was pregnant with Cameron's baby and confront the director about it, who will be sitting in the audience.

Sacha Cohen is not the first invitee who will not be present at this year's ceremony following a clash with Academy Awards producers.

On Wednesday it was announced that a producer, who worked on the Oscar-nominated war film The Hurt Locker, has been banned.

Nicolas Chartier is not allowed to go after sending an e-mail to voters urging them to name his movie as best film over rival Avatar, which is against Academy rules.
