Pop star Justin Timberlake has been honoured as the Hasty Pudding Man of the Year by the Harvard University troupe.

Timberlake took part in the traditional festivities, which included men in drag and dancing.

The students hailed the Emmy and Grammy award-winning singer as one of today's most influential entertainers.

Timberlake, known for his sense of humour, said the pudding pot was better than his other trophies.

"This is cooler than any Grammy or Emmy or anything I could have ever thought of. Thank you. Thank you," said Timberlake.

Each year sees the Harvard students chose both a male and female celebrity to receive their pudding award.

Timberlake joins a list that includes actors James Franco, Christopher Walken, Clint Eastwood and Tom Cruise.

Last month actress Anne Hathaway was honoured in the same way as Timberlake as she was made Hasty Pudding Woman of the Year.

The winners receive a golden pudding pot, a tradition that dates back to 1795.

Twenty-one Harvard students pledged that each member of their new club would provide "a pot of hasty pudding" for every meeting.
