ITN newsreader Kirsty Young is expecting her first baby.

The 31-year-old presenter and husband Nick Jones are said to be "delighted" at the news.

The baby is due in early spring of next year, a spokeswoman for ITN said.

Young, who co-presents ITV's lunchtime news, will continue her broadcasting commitments to ITN and ITV until her maternity leave.

She intends to return to work following her maternity leave, the spokeswoman added.

"ITN is fully supportive of Kirsty and her desire for privacy for what is a personal family matter," she added.

Scottish-born Young married nightclub owner Jones, 36, last September after meeting him in 1998 at Babington House, the hotel he owns in Somerset.

She started off her career in the media as a radio presenter for BBC Radio Scotland before moving to Scottish Television, where she presented her own chat show.

Channel hopping

She clinched the coveted role of main news presenter for Channel 5, moving to ITV in January this year.

In a newspaper interview earlier this year, Kirsty said she would love to have children.

She told The Mirror in March: "In the future, who knows? Nick has two from his first marriage, which makes me a stepmum, and we get on very well.

"The more time I spend with his and my families, the better."
