British exchange student Mary Jess Leaverland is being billed as China's answer to Leona Lewis.

She won Jiangsu province's equivalent of The X Factor by singing in both English and Mandarin. Although there are no million-pound record deals in the offing, she is discovering what life is like as a superstar, with autograph hunters regularly mobbing her in the street.

Mary Jess told BBC Breakfast about how she came to take part in the show.
