Stars join Wendy Richard charity honour

Cassidy and Brown both starred with Richard in EastEnders

TV stars including EastEnders actress June Brown are to recreate a real-life version of sitcom Are You Being Served? in memory of the late Wendy Richard.

Richard, who died in February of cancer aged 65, played Miss Brahms in the 1970s BBC One classic.

Nicholas Smith, who played Mr Rumbold in the show, will join Brown and fellow Albert Square star Natalie Cassidy at the charity sale in Selfridges, London.

Outfits owned by Richard from designers including YSl and Gucci will be sold.

The department store will be transformed on 19 January to recreate the old-fashioned atmosphere of the hit show.

Brown and Cassidy both worked with Richard on the BBC One soap EastEnders, for which the actress played Pauline Fowler for many years.

Money raised from the sale will be donated to The Lady Taverners charity, which helps young people with special needs take part in sports.

Richard's husband John Burns said: "It will be great to see Wendy's belongings at Selfridges in support of such a cause.

"I decided this would be a great way for Wendy to help The Lady Taverners.

"Wendy considered Selfridges her corner shop and would have been thrilled with the Are You Being Served? theme."
