David Tennant says goodbye to Doctor Who

After being in charge of the Tardis for four-and-a-half years, David Tennant has said goodbye to Doctor Who.

In the episode shown on New Year's Day, Tennant's Time Lord "regenerated" into Matt Smith.

Tennant, one of the most popular Doctors in the programme's 46-year history, replaced Christopher Eccleston's ninth Doctor in 2005.
