An arrest warrant has been issued for actor Randy Quaid and his wife Evi after they failed to appear in court, charged with defrauding an innkeeper.

They are accused of using an invalid credit card to a pay a bill of more than $10,000 (£6,150) in June at a hotel in Santa Barbara, California.

The couple, of Marfa, Texas, will lose $40,000 (£24,600) in forfeited bail.

Their lawyer Robert Sanger has previously said they had paid the bill and hoped to resolve the case.

Burglary

Their no-show was the latest in a number of court absences and follows a failed attempt by authorities in Santa Barbara to extradite them from Texas.

A spokesman for the Santa Barbara District Attorney's office said the couple would have to post a further $40,000 in bail if arrested.

The Quaids, who were arrested in Marfa in September after an earlier warrant was issued in California, are also charged with burglary.

Quaid, 55, the elder brother of fellow actor Dennis, is well known for his roles in Brokeback Mountain, National Lampoon's Vacation and Kingpin.
