30 Rock star 'needs new kidney'

Grizz Chapman
Chapman has said he will continue to play Grizzwald in the popular comedy

30 Rock's Grizz Chapman is facing a kidney transplant, the 35-year-old actor has revealed.

Chapman, who plays Grizzwald on the NBC TV comedy, is receiving dialysis treatment three times a week.

He said he wants to raise awareness of the dangers of high blood pressure, which led to his condition.

Chapman said was diagnosed with high blood pressure in 1999 and learned two years ago that he was suffering from kidney disease.

30 Rock is a spoof behind the scenes look at a TV variety sketch show, in which Tina Fey plays the head writer who has to handle its unpredictable star and her charismatic boss (Alec Baldwin).

Fey, who created the comedy, came up with the idea while she was the head writer and a performer on US comedy sketch show Saturday Night Live.
