Laila Rouass came in for some heavy criticism from the judges

Former Footballers' Wives actress Laila Rouass has been voted off BBC's Strictly Come Dancing, missing out on a place in the semi-finals.

Rouass lost out to what guest judge Darcey Bussell called a "most perfect performance" by actor Ricky Whittle in the dance-off.

He will now battle it out against actress Ali Bastian and BBC presenter Chris Hollins for a place in the final.

Rouass said she had had "such a ball" with dance partner Anton du Beke.

The final four performed two different dances, with Ricky Whittle impressing the judges and scoring the highest points.

But the voting public did not agree and his combined score put him in the bottom two for the second week running.

I've never seen such a mess in the quarter finals
Bruno Tonioli, judge

Rouass came in for heavy criticism from the judges and finished bottom of the scoreboard.

Bruno Tonioli told her: "I've never seen such a mess in the quarter-finals."

After the dance-off, Craig Revel Horwood, ballerina Darcey Bussell and Alesha Dixon all voted to save Whittle.

Referring to the Hollyoaks actor's impressive dance-off performance, Anton du Beke joked: "Why couldn't you go wrong a few times?"

Bussell, who officially retired from dancing in June 2007, will continue as a guest judge for the last two shows.

Next week, the semi-finalists will perform the Argentine tango.
