Jackson's father estate bid fails

Joe Jackson is now seeking an allowance from the estate

Michael Jackson's father will not inherit any of his son's assets, a judge in Los Angeles has ruled.

Superior Court Judge Mitchell Beckloff has also dismissed Joe Jackson's bid to challenge the appointment of the two executors chosen by the late pop star.

"Joe Jackson takes none of this estate. This is a decision his son made," Judge Beckloff told the court.

Jackson's mother Katherine withdrew her objections to the appointment of the executors John Branca and John McClain.

'Despicable things'

Mr Branca is a lawyer who represented Michael Jackson for more than 20 years. Mr McClain is a music executive who was a childhood friend of the singer.

Katherine Jackson's lawyer, Adam Streisand, said she wanted to let the executors earn money for the estate rather than incurring legal fees.

Michael Jackson left his assets to his mother, his children and children's charities.

But Joe Jackson's lawyer, Brian Oxman, accused Mrs Jackson of reneging on an agreement with her family to challenge the executors and called the announcement "one of the most despicable things I have ever seen".

The judge scheduled a hearing for 10 December on Joe Jackson's request for a family allowance.

According to court documents, Mr Jackson wants an allowance to help cover expenses that exceed $15,000 (£9000) a month.

Funeral costs

Mr Jackson's outgoings were listed in the court papers and included rent for his Las Vegas home, meals out, air travel and hotel accommodation.

Michael Jackson had spoken of his often strained relationship with his father.

The court also revealed how much had been spent on the singer's funeral.

The estate paid nearly $1m (£596,000) for the private family funeral at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Los Angeles.

Expenses included $35,000 (£20,800) for burial garments and $30,000 (£17,882) for cars and security.
