Laverne said becoming an author was "all I ever wanted"

TV presenter Lauren Laverne is to write a series of novels for teenage girls about a 15-year-old girl who dreams of becoming a rock star. The Culture Show presenter, who fronted pop group Kenickie in her late teens, has signed a deal with HarperCollins to publish her "rock chick lit" books. Laverne, 31, said the prospect was "wonderful" but "terrifying". On Tuesday, it was announced Laverne would be presenting the weekday 10am radio show on the BBC's 6 Music. She will move from her current Saturday afternoon show on the station to take over from George Lamb in the weekday slot from Monday 30 November. Lamb will move to a weekend breakfast show. 'New heroine' Laverne's book will centre on the rock star dreams of her heroine - including a desire to play at Glastonbury - as well as her quest to find her estranged father BioDad. Laverne said she was encouraged to write by her husband who told her she was "an excellent speller". "When I was a kid, all I ever wanted to be was an author," she added. "To be writing a book of my own is absolutely wonderful and, like most things worth doing, occasionally terrifying." HarperCollins spokeswoman Ann-Janine Murtagh said Laverne had "created a new heroine who is endearing and funny with a wonderfully original and authentic voice".
