Gibson a father for eighth time

Oksana Grigorieva and Mel Gibson have been together since last year

Mel Gibson's partner has given birth to the couple's first child together, a girl called Lucia.

Gibson's publicist, Alan Nierob, confirmed Oksana Grigorieva, 39, gave birth on Friday.

Grigorieva, a pianist and songwriter, also has a teenage son with former James Bond actor Timothy Dalton.

Gibson, 53, already has seven children with estranged wife Robyn, who filed for divorce to end their 28-year marriage in April.

Gibson has said the pair split up three years ago and that he met Grigorieva in 2008 while filming Edge of Darkness.

The Oscar-winner revealed his girlfriend was pregnant on The Tonight Show earlier this year.

"When it's all said and done, I did a pretty good hatchet job on my marriage myself," he told Jay Leno.

"I'm to blame. If you're inclined to judge, put it here."
