Katy Perry is shortlisted in the best video category

Katy Perry has been signed up to host the MTV Europe Music Awards for the second year running.

The flamboyant singer is also set to perform at the ceremony, which will feature stars including Green Day, Leona Lewis and Tokio Hotel.

Perry is also nominated against Beyonce, Lady Gaga, Shakira and Leona Lewis in the best video category for Waking Up In Vegas.

The awards gala is due to take place in Berlin on 5 November.

According to MTV, it is the first time a presenter has been asked to host two years in a row.

Costume changes

At last year's awards in Liverpool, Perry gained attention with her wacky costumes and sets.

The pop star opened the show astride a giant cherry Chapstick and at one point sat on a giant banana.

Perry, who also won the award for best newcomer, got through 10 costumes including a sequined dress bearing the face of President Barack Obama.

Perry is currently starting work on the follow-up to her Grammy-nominated album One of the Boys,.

Her single I Kissed a Girl sold more than four million copies worldwide.

Other award nominees for prizes this year include Beyonce with four nods, while Eminem and Green Day have three nominations each.
