Moulin Rouge director Baz Luhrmann has stepped in as a guest judge on Dancing With The Stars, replacing Len Goodman for a week.

Luhrmann, who also wrote and directed Strictly Ballroom, joined the panel for Monday's show and will return Tuesday.

Goodman's gruelling schedule usually sees him fly every week between Los Angeles and London, where he judges Strictly Come Dancing.

Luhrmann ballroom danced as a child as his mother was a dance teacher.

Dancing With The Stars presenter Tom Bergeron said Strictly Ballroom "was a major inspiration in the creation of this little show".

Among the stars taking part in the US show are Kelly Osbourne, Donny Osmond and politician Tom DeLay.

Singer Macy Gray and Ashley Hamilton, son of actor George Hamilton, have already been eliminated.
