Christina Aguilera (r) will be making her feature film debut

Singers Cher and Christina Aguilera have teamed up to star in a new musical film called Burlesque, reports say.

Industry magazine Variety says Aguilera will play an ambitious small-town girl with a big voice who finds success in a neo-burlesque club.

Cher's role will see her play a former dancer who takes Aguilera's character under her wing.

Former ER star Stanley Tucci will also appear in the movie, which is expected to start shooting in November.

Actor Steve Antin, who appeared in the 1985 cult movie The Goonies and has since featured in the NYPD series, will direct the film.

Cher's last film role was Stuck On You in 2003, which starred Matt Damon.

In 1988 she won the best actress Oscar for her role in Moonstruck and was nominated for best supporting actress in Silkwood four years previously.

Burlesque will be Aguilera's first major role in a feature film.
