TV presenter and DJ Fearne Cotton has taken over the BBC Radio One mid-morning show from Jo Whiley.

The 10.00am to 12.45pm slot has been held by Whiley since 2001 - she has now moved to present mid-afternoon shows on Saturdays and Sundays.

"I'm very excited," Cotton said as she took over from breakfast show host Chris Moyles.

"I didn't sleep a wink last night - it's like my first day at school," the DJ added.

Live Lounge

The show kicked off with Fall Out Boy's cover of Michael Jackson's Beat It and Lady GaGa's Poker Face.

Cotton's programme will still feature the Live Lounge which was an integral part of Whiley's show - Monday's guests were Australian pop duo, The Veronicas.

Cotton presented the Radio One official chart show on Sundays for two years.

She began her career as a children's TV presenter and has gone on to present programmes such as Top of the Pops and ITV1 reality TV show Love Island.
