President Barack Obama labelled Kanye West a "jackass"

US rapper Kanye West has been nominated for nine prizes at this year's BET Hip Hop awards, which take place in Atlanta next month. At the last awards show West attended, he caused outrage by interrupting Taylor Swift's acceptance speech. The 32-year-old's latest album, 808s & Heartbreak, has more than a million copies, but he failed to win any trophies at the MTV Awards on Sunday. Jay-Z and Lil Wayne are up for seven awards each at the BET ceremony. Rapper Ice Cube will receive the I Am Hip Hop icon award at the show, which will be hosted by comedian Mike Epps. West has apologised to Swift for walking onto the stage after she won MTV's best female video prize and claiming Beyonce should have been given the award. The rapper was booed by the MTV audience - and even President Barack Obama waded into the debate. Speaking before a TV interview, Mr Obama labelled the star a "jackass" and said he thought his behaviour had been "inappropriate".
