Dame Vera Lynn shoots up UK chart

Dame Vera Lynn has reached number two in the UK album chart - but was kept off the top spot by indie band the Arctic Monkeys.

The 92-year-old, known for keeping up morale during World War II, is the oldest living star to have a chart hit.

The Very Best Of Vera Lynn, a collection of her classic recordings, was released to coincide with the 70th anniversary of the outbreak of war.

She was ahead of DJ David Guetta and US rockers Kings of Leon in the chart.

There will be strong competition for the top spots next week after remastered versions of The Beatles' albums are released for the first time.

In this week's singles chart, rap giant Jay-Z scored his first UK number one with Run This Town, featuring Rihanna and Kanye West.

Sugababes took the number two spot with another new entry, Get Sexy, according to the Official UK Charts Company.
