REM to release live rehearsal CD

REM
The two-CD set will also feature songs from previous REM albums

REM are to release a live album of songs from the band's "working rehearsals" at Dublin's Olympia club in July 2007.

REM Live At The Olympia will feature 39 songs from the band's five-day stint at the venue where they tested out new material for the 2008 album Accelerate.

Guitarist Peter Buck described the gigs as an "experiment in terror, trying to do something we hadn't done before".

The double album is set to be released on 26 October.

Early versions

Fan club members, friends and family attended the gigs where the new songs were road-tested.

But Buck said there was no time to relax during the sets: "Every second we were playing something we didn't know all that well.

"Which was kind of good - there were all kinds of terror elements going on during that show."

The band said the new album would give fans the chance to hear early incarnations of songs before they were recorded in their final versions.

The tracklisting includes, the single Man-Sized Wreath and an early version of Supernatural Superserious, under its original title Disguised.

Two songs - On The Fly and Staring Down The Barrel Of The Middle Distance - which were only performed during the five-night run are also included.
