Reality TV personality Kerry Katona has said sorry in an interview with the Sunday Mirror following allegations she had taken class A drugs.

"I'm so sorry and so ashamed of my actions. I know I let everyone down," said the 28-year-old.

The allegations appeared in the News of the World last week. Katona refused to comment on the nature of the powder.

"It was a moment of weakness and stupidity and I regret it terribly," the former pop singer told the paper.

Cheshire Police said they could not rule out taking further action against Katona if presented with new evidence.

A spokesman said: "We do not comment on individuals until a point in an investigation where a person is charged with an offence.

"In general terms it is very difficult to prosecute anyone for drugs offences without physical evidence of the alleged substance.

"However, should any individual have any evidence or information in relation to this particular matter they are advised to contact Cheshire Police," he added.

Wants help

Katona said her children were her main priority.

"The biggest fear I could ever have is losing my children. But I'm not aware that Brian wants custody of the girls," she added, referring to her former husband Brian McFadden and their two daughters.

Katona said she was not surprised the supermarket chain Iceland sacked her as the star of their advertising campaigns.

"I wasn't shocked by the decision. I understood that I'd given them no choice… they have stood by me through thick and thin and this is how I repaid them. I'm sorry I let them down."

The mother of four denied she was addicted to drugs.

"I'm not a drug addict. I don't wake up and think I need drugs. But I know that I have to get some help to make sure I never take drugs again," she said.
