Britton hosted her final show on her 52nd brithday

Fern Britton has made an emotional farewell to ITV1 daytime show This Morning after 10 years as presenter. In a tribute to her time on the programme, the 52-year-old said to co-host Phillip Schofield: "We've had a ball", and wished him good luck. Britton announced her exit in March, saying she wanted to spend time with her family and work on new projects. She will be replaced by Dancing on Ice host Holly Willoughby, 28, when the show returns after its summer break. 'Best six years' Willoughby said presenting the show was "the ultimate dream job" and was delighted to be reunited with her Dancing On Ice co-host Schofield. Britton wiped away tears as she received a surprise video message from her former This Morning co-host John Leslie during the farewell celebrations. The This Morning "family" also joined in the celebrations, including agony aunt Denise Robertson, who broke down in tears as the final goodbyes were said. Old video clips of Britton and Schofield giggling were shown throughout the programme as well as video tributes from stars including Johnny Vegas, Ricky Gervais and Paul O'Grady. A message read out from the Duchess of York said: "I always remember to keep my wits about me when I know I'm going to be interviewed by you. "You are no pushover. Thank you Fern for all your care, your golden heart and what you have given us all over the years." Britton said: "There is not a person in this building who I don't absolutely love." Turning to Schofield, who also appeared to be holding back tears, she added: "You've given me the best six years together." In an interview earlier this month, Britton said: "I want my successor to have a great time - the moment's right for someone else to have a go."
