Ex-Moloko singer Roisin Murphy has teamed up with Sinead O'Connor and thecocknbullkid for a charity cover. The former Moloko singer has helped re-work Chaka Khan's famous hit single I'm Every Woman for the women's charity Action Aid. "It's a bit of a depressing version of the song, it's more haunting and soulful but I think it represents what it's about really well," she said. The track was produced by President of Epic Records Amanda Ghost. It aims to help raise awareness of women's rights in the third world. "I felt if we do it in a way that's dark and sombre I thought we could get people talking about it," Ghost explained of the song's new take. "I think it's really quite sad and mournful. We made this folky recording and I think it's a real contrast to the original." Murphy became involved in the project in between recording the follow up to her 2007 album Overpowered.
The singer told 6 Music that she is some way into recording her third album. "It is quite gritty, it has a slightly London sound to it, it's a bit more urban and bass-ey than my last record," she explained. As a taster to the new LP, the singer is set to release new single Demon Lover before the end of the summer. "I've got a big funky house track ready to go," she said. "It's a souped-up full on garage tune." Roisin also revealed that she has written a song for Sophie Ellis Bextor which may feature on the popstress' forthcoming album. "It's a track called Off And On," she said. "It sounds great actually it's much better than my version. "Mine wasn't really me, it was too poppy and I didn't feel comfortable with it." To hear the full interview tune in to The Music Week on 6 Music on 19 July.
