Comedian Noel Fielding has announced he plans to take part in an attempt to break the world record for the largest gathering of zombies in one place.

The attempt will be filmed as part of the Film4 production, I Spit on Your Rave, in which the Mighty Boosh star plays the Zombie King.

It will take place at this year's Big Chill festival at Eastnor Castle Deer Park in Herefordshire on 6-9 August.

Revellers are being asked to arrive as zombies so they can be shot as extras.

Organisers are setting up "Zombification stations", which will provide makeovers for anyone who wants to be made into a zombie.

I Spit On Your Rave is set nine years in the future with mankind extinct after a virus is released at the 2012 Olympics.

Fake blood

A spokesman for the Big Chill festival said: "White face make-up and a bit of fake blood will do, but festival organisers would love it if participants could go the whole hog."

The previous record was set by 3,370 people who congregated for such an event in the US state of Michigan last year.

However, there are doubts over whether it was officially recorded.

Other attractions at the four-day festival include Basement Jaxx, former Talking Heads frontman David Byrne and Orbital.
