US actor Matthew McConaughey has announced he is expecting a second child with girlfriend Camilla Alves.

On his website, the star said: "We pulled off the greatest miracle in the world one more time. Camilla and I are expecting our second child."

McConaughey, 39, became a father for the first time last July when their son Levi was born.

"The last 11 months with Levi and Camilla have been the most rewarding adventure to date," he said.

In a message posted on his site, the actor said: "We have more blessed news to celebrate this Father's Day, that makes this time, next year double the fun.

"Levi is going to be a big brother. The future looks bright as the family grows and we thank you for all the well wishes you send our way."

Soon after his son was born, McConaughey announced he planned to bury the placenta from the birth in his orchard as he said he thought it would help to fertilize the land.

The star is best known for his starring roles in films like A Time to Kill and The Wedding Planner.
