Hollywood actress Cameron Diaz has been honoured with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Friends and fellow actors Tom Cruise, Katie Holmes and Lucy Liu joined hundreds of fans at the ceremony in Los Angeles on Monday.

Diaz attributed her success to her parents. Her father died of pneumonia in April aged 58.

She said her parents' love had given her "the strength and courage to live this extraordinary life".

Modelling career

"It is what powers the light that burns inside of me, bright enough for me to be honoured today with this star on the Walk of Fame," she added.

She plays the mother of three children, one of whom has leukaemia.

Diaz was born in San Diego, California, in 1972 and went on to become a model at the age of 16.

Her other films credits include Something About Mary, Vanilla Sky and Charlie's Angels.
