Depeche Mode restart world tour

Dave Gahan
The singer was diagnosed with a low-grade malignant tumour

Depeche Mode have resumed their world tour in Germany following singer Dave Gahan's surgery to remove a cancerous tumour in his bladder last month.

Gahan thanked fans in Leipzig for their support and "all of the doctors who looked after me so well".

The 47-year-old had been diagnosed with gastroenteritis after falling in Greece before further medical tests revealed a low-grade malignant tumour.

Twelve shows were either cancelled or postponed due to Gahan's illness.

"Being back onstage is an incredible feeling and I'm looking forward to each and every show," Gahan said on stage.

The band's Tour of the Universe continues in Berlin on 10 June.

They are due to perform in Dublin, Glasgow, Birmingham, London and Manchester in December.
