Another Level split
Boy band Another Level have split up, singer Dane Bowers has announced.

The 20-year-old said he and bandmate Mark Baron were calling it a day after notching up over a dozen top 10 hits.

The group had been struggling since members Wayne Williams and Bobak Kinoush both left late last year.

"They are no longer. It's just turned out that way. It's just the sort of natural way it's gone," Bowers told London radio station Capital FM.

Bowers has recently worked with garage act True Steppers, and is teaming up with Spice Girls singer Victoria Beckham for her debut single away from the group.

McCartney plays chauffeur for the day

Sir Paul McCartney swapped his rock 'n' roll lifestyle for the day to be a chauffeur at a wedding.

The former Beatle, 58, donned a pair of trainers and dark grey suit to drive second cousin Sally Harris to her big day in Wallasey, Merseyside.

He was joined by his TV presenter girlfriend Heather Mills at the service before partying at a family reception.

His brother, Mike McCartney, was official photographer for the day.

Widower Shatner to make comedy in grief

Former Star Trek star William Shatner is to direct and produce a dark comedy - Shiva Club - based on his experiences after his wife drowned last August.

Shiva is the mourning period observed in the Jewish faith after someone dies.

"During the process of sitting shiva [it] occurred to me that grief can be funny," he told Hollywood Reporter.

The film is about four jobless comics who audition for Hollywood's top funnyman while he is sitting shiva.

Paltrow to star in latest Newell movie

Oscar-winner Gwyneth Paltrow is to star in a new comedy - How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days - from the director of Four Weddings and a Funeral, Mike Newell.

Based on a bestselling book by Jeannie Long and Michele Alexander, the film is billed as a sardonic look at the pitfalls of a new relationship.

Scheduled for a November start, it will be Newell's first directing project since Pushing Tin, starring John Cusack and Billy Bob Thornton.

Hoop star Shaquille supports ad strike

Basketball star Shaquille O'Neal says he "fully supports" an actors' strike in the US, despite having defied it by filming a TV commercial.

"I've been through two work stoppages in my career and I know how difficult they are to union members and their families," he said.

Union members went on strike on 1 May over repeat payments for TV adverts.

O'Neal's agent says the fees from the Disney ad went to a children's charity

Stars 'lining up to play Howard Hughes'

The actress-turned-writer widow of reclusive tycoon Howard Hughes says she is frantically fending off calls from Hollywood stars wanting to play him.

Terry Moore, who was married to Hughes from 1949 to 1956, is writing a script about Hughes's life and says it is being produced by Alan Ladd Jr.

She told the New York Post George Clooney, John Cusack, Nicolas Cage and John Travolta are among the actors who she says are interested in playing Hughes.

Lineker fells Lynam in battle of the presenters

Former England footballer Gary Lineker has been named the public's favourite Euro 2000 presenter - netting three times as many votes as rival Des Lynam.

Lineker, who hosts the BBC's live coverage of the tournament, won 60% of the votes in a survey of 5,000 viewers conducted by website Football 365.

Lynam, who defected to ITV from the BBC last summer, took just 18% of the vote with other presenters sharing 20%.

Recent ratings revealed that twice as many viewers saw the England v Germany match on BBC than ITV.
