Addams Family set to hit Broadway

The Addams Family is to be made into a Broadway musical starring Nathan Lane, the show's producers have announced.

The Producers star will play Gomez Addams in the show, with Cheers and Frasier star Bebe Neuwirth appearing as his wife Morticia.

The plot will centre around daughter Wednesday Addams and how she deals with turning 18 and getting a boyfriend.

The musical will open in Chicago in November for two months before moving to Broadway in April 2010.

Based on the creations of cartoonist Charles Addams, The original Addams Family television show ran in the 1960s.

The show featured an oddball family who shock friends and visitors with their eccentricities, believing that they are normal and the world around them is bizarre.

It was so popular it spawned an animated series in the mid-'70s and prompted two movies in the 1990s starring Anjelica Huston, the late Raul Julia and Christopher Lloyd.
