Kylie's Spinning top
Kylie Minogue is heading for her first number one in a decade, according to early sales figures.

The 32 year-old's new single, Spinning Around, is out-selling its nearest rival Black Legend, currently in the top slot.

Minogue, who last headed the charts in 1990 with Tears on My Pillow, has been taking a break from the industry after poor sales for her last album.

Spinning Around sees a return to the pop sound which first made her a star.


Mel C calls off pre-match performance

Sporty Spice Mel C cancelled a performance in Charleroi before the England v Romania football game.

The singer had planned to sing her new single on the pitch.

Her spokesman, Alan Edwards, said Mel called off the performance "because of problems getting all the band's equipment into the stadium."

But the Sun newspaper claims that Mel was advised against performing by UEFA because of security fears.


Damon set for lead after Pitt drops out

Actor Matt Damon is reported to be in the final stages of negotiation for the lead role in The Bourne Identity.

Damon came into the running after Brad Pitt dropped out due to scheduling difficulties, says industry newspaper Daily Variety.

The movie, based on the thriller by Robert Ludlum, will begin filming this autumn with Doug Liman as director.

The role of Jason Bourne was originally played by Richard Chamberlain in a made-for-TV series in 1988.


Neill in line for Jurassic Park return

Actor Sam Neill may star in the third instalment of the Jurassic Park series, according to Hollywood Reporter.

Neill, who starred in the original movie but was not in sequel The Lost World, is in talks with studio bosses.

Jumanji director Joe Johnston is in line to direct the third film, which is due to begin filming this summer.

Original director Steven Spielberg will act as executive producer.


Stewart slams Land of Opportunity

Patrick Stewart, the British actor best known for his role as Captain Jean-Luc Picard in Star Trek, has slammed the US in an interview with George magazine.

The actor said it was "laughable" to call the US "the land of opportunity".

"How can you be truly free when there is so much poverty and poor education?"

"A lot of America's global actions stink," said Stewart who will shortly appear in the film, X-Men.

"The US's international focus is based on money."


Arnie confirms 'I'll be back'

Arnold Schwarzenegger has ended years of speculation by confirming that he wants to make a third Terminator film.

He told US show Access Hollywood that Terminator 3 was in the script stage but a director had not yet been decided.

He said that James Cameron, who wrote and directed the first two films in the series - and later, Titanic - would "definitely produce" the project.

Schwarzenegger first played the cyborg killer in 1984 and returned to the role in 1991.


Pacino leads theatre studio

Hollywood stars Al Pacino, Ellen Burstyn and Harvey Keitel have been chosen to lead the Actor's Studio, the legendary New York theatre workshop

They replace Arthur Penn, who is to executive produce TV show Law and Order.

The workshop was founded in 1947 to champion the Method acting style taught by Lee Strasberg and made famous by the likes of Marlon Brando, Paul Newman.

It has 900 members in New York and Los Angeles including actors, writers and directors.


Ribisi and Blanchett reunited in Heaven

Saving Private Ryan star Giovanni Ribisi is reported to be in final negotiations to star opposite Cate Blanchett in the Miramax drama, Heaven.

The project is slated to begin shooting in Italy and Germany this month with Tom Tykwer of Run Lola Run fame making his English-language directorial debut.

Based on a screenplay from the late Polish filmmaker, Kieslowski, the film reunites Ribisi and Blanchett who last worked together on Sam Raimi's The Gift


Hardman Kemp considers hair extensions

Former EastEnders hardman Ross Kemp will adopt a new long-haired image for his upcoming role in ITV's modern-day adaptation of A Christmas Carol.

Kemp, best known for playing the close-cropped Grant Mitchell, is to star as ruthless money lender Eddie Scrooge - complete with ponytail.

"I might do implants and extensions round the back and make a ponytail," the actor revealed at the launch of his new legal series, In Defence.

Kemp also revealed plans to take a break after filming A Christmas Carol.
