Hollywood actor Josh Hartnett has been released from a Los Angeles hospital where he was treated for gastrointestinal problems.

The star's publicist said he underwent tests at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center to determine the cause of the illness.

The actor was admitted to the hospital by ambulance on 30 March and released later that week.

Hartnett suffered the same complaint while making his West End debut in a stage adaptation of Rain Man last year.

The star was forced to miss several performances of the play during its London run.

Publicist Susan Patricola told People Magazine that Hartnett was now "fine".

"They are running tests, which take time to get back and it's a process of elimination" she added.

Hartnett starred in Black Hawk Down, 30 Days and 30 Nights and The Black Dahlia. He is currently filming Queen of the South with Sir Ben Kingsley.
