Simpson-Wentz 'in Melrose cast'

Actress and singer Ashlee Simpson-Wentz has joined the cast of revived TV show Melrose Place, according to reports.

Simpson-Wentz will play Violet, who moves to Melrose Place with a secret, The Hollywood Reporter said.

The 24-year-old, best known for hits such as Pieces of Me and Boyfriend, is returning to acting after a four-year break where she worked on her music.

Simpson-Wentz guest-stars in an episode of CSI: NY with her husband Fall Out Boy frontman Pete Wentz.

The couple play Bonnie-and-Clyde wannabes.

The pair, who married in May 2008, had a baby boy the following November.

Simpson-Wentz, who is the younger sister of pop singer Jessica Simpson, rose to fame in 2004 after releasing debut album Autobiography.

She also starred in her own reality series, The Ashlee Simpson Show.
