University Challenge's new winners, the University of Manchester, have said that they are "saddened" to have been awarded the trophy, after their opponents were disqualified.

Manchester team member Henry Pertinez told BBC Breakfast that the whole situation had been "very unfortunate", and the victory was down to "a technicality".

The University of Manchester team was named winners of the long-running quiz show after it was found the original victors, Corpus Christi College, Oxford, fielded a contestant who was no longer a student.
