White Stripes to play after break

The White Stripes
It is not yet known if The White Stripes will play new material

Rock band White Stripes are set to play live together for the first time since cancelling their UK tour and a string of US dates in 2007.

Jack and Meg White will perform on the NBC talk show Late Night With Conan O'Brien on Friday 20 February.

The duo were previously forced to pull out of their planned performances because drummer Meg had been suffering from acute anxiety.

In 2003, White Stripes performed a week-long residency on O'Brien's show.

The pair's last public appearance together was last year, when Meg briefly ran onstage during a gig by Jack's other band The Raconteurs.

However, the star did not play any music on that occasion.

In 2006, the band was forced to shelve four concerts in Japan after frontman Jack suffered vocal chord problems and was ordered not to speak or sing for two weeks.

The group, from Detroit, Michigan, first achieved commercial success with their fourth album, Elephant, in 2003.

It topped the UK chart and spawned their breakthrough hit Seven Nation Army.
