Corrie set for console treatment

Rovers Return
The Coronation Street game will be out in the UK before Christmas

Coronation Street is being made into a Nintendo DS game before the end of the year, ITV has confirmed.

The channel has signed a deal with the company behind hit games Deal or No Deal and Brain Training to make a puzzle game based on the show.

It will allow players to go inside Corrie landmarks like the Rovers Return and The Kiosk to carry out tasks.

An ITV spokesman said the game, which will be released in the UK, is targeted at families.

The company also signed a deal to push through a board game based on the programme. Destination: Coronation Street will use the characters and locations of the show.

Aysha Kidwai from ITV Global Entertainment said: "We receive thousands of fan letters enquiring about the series every month. We're responding to this huge demand."

ITV could not confirm if castmembers will appear as their characters in the game as the project is still in development.
