US rapper Eminem was arrested after allegedly getting into a fight with some of his fans outside a café.

The Grammy-winning star was one of four people taken into custody on Sunday.

Two men were arrested on suspicion of carrying a gun and a man and a woman were held for disorderly conduct. Police would not say which category Eminem falls into.

The 27-year-old rapper, whose real name is Marshall Mathers, was freed later on Sunday.

The incident happened in the car park of the Hot Rocks Café in Michigan.

Club manager Scott Lapensee said a group of people approached Eminem after recognising him.

"They wanted to get an autograph or just talk with him," he claimed.

Lepensee added that a fight broke out and three security guards jumped in to try and stop it.

A police spokesman said they went to the café after security guards detained someone with a gun.

Eminem's second album, The Marshall Mathers LP, is at the top of the US Billboard charts after selling 1.76 million copies in its first week.

His debut single My Name Is went straight to number one in the UK charts and The Marshall Mathers LP is currently at number three.

The performer won a Grammy for Best Rap Album earlier this year for his debut, The Slim Shady LP.
