Hollyoaks band to release single

The Dirty Diegos
The Dirty Diegos will take part in a band competition in the show

Characters from the Channel 4 series Hollyoaks are to release a single in a bid to make the official UK top 40.

The Dirty Diegos features Josh Ashworth on lead guitar, singer Michaela McQueen, Sasha Valentine on keyboards and Amy Barnes on drums.

The group's single, called Play, is due to be released on 24 November.

The band will be seen performing the track during an episode of E4's spin-off, Late Night Hollyoaks, which is also due to start next month.

They will compete against real-life pop group The Saturdays in a battle-of-the-bands competition.

Hollyoaks producer, Lucy Allan, said: "We are very excited to have The Saturdays on board and can't wait to hear their performance.

"I am sure that they will teach The Dirty Diegos a thing or two."

It is not the first time a musical storyline in the C4 show has spilled over into real life.

Theatre impresario Andrew Lloyd Webber planted Summer Strallen in the show last yaer.

For three months, viewers watched her pursue her dream of West End stardom.

In reality Lord Lloyd-Webber had already decided to cast Strallen as Maria in The Sound of Music.
