Brit award winner and Mercury nominee Adele is finding it hard to knuckle down and write new album material.

Currently touring her debut album, 19, the singer has written six songs but described four of them as "really bad".

Her first album entered the charts at number one, so expectations of the soul singer's forthcoming material are high.

But Adele claims she is finding it difficult to write on the road because she is "preoccupied all the time" and would rather go to sleep.

Speaking to BBC 6 Music before her headline performance at the Little Noise Sessions on 11 November, she explained: "Even though I'm given time to be on my own, the last thing I want to do is write a song.

"I've written about six songs. Four are really bad, just because I'm kind of getting back into it. Two are alright.

"I just want to make sure I write a good record. The better your record, the more opportunities you get."

The singer is no stranger to collaborations, having recently teamed up with the White Stripes' Jack White for the track Many Shades of Black, and Burt Bacharach at the BBC Electric Proms.

As for future partnerships, Adele said: "I kind of want to do one with Justin Timberlake or Beyonce, or Christina Aguilera, or Kelis, or someone."

"But it's a bit inevitable and generic... doing one with a big star is expected. So I'd quite like to do one with an up-and-coming person.

"I'd also love to work with Alison Krauss. I love her so much, but I think that kind of record will come when I'm on my fourth or fifth.

"I'm still a bit of a pop tart and that's what I want to remain for a while."

The Londoner also said she is hoping to revisit a song she wrote with her friend and fellow musician, Jamie T.

"We started writing a duet when I was writing my album, but never got round to finishing it. It would be good to finish that. I'm a huge fan of his.

Adele hopes to have the second album completed by Autumn 2009.

"I don't think I could ever top singing with Burt Bacharach though. That was a once in a lifetime thing."
