Police in Las Vegas have issued a warrant for the arrest of actor and rapper Mos Def over an alleged scuffle with a photographer in August.

Volker Corell, 60, alleges that Mos Def, real name Dante Terrell Smith, ripped a camera from around his neck.

Las Vegas police say they expect the star to turn himself in to face charges of robbery and destruction of property.

A spokesman for the 34-year-old Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy star said he was unavailable for comment.

The warrant was issued on Tuesday with officers still seeking Smith on Thursday.

Police said they expected the rapper to turn himself by the end of the week.

The alleged incident took place at the Men's Apparel and Garment Industry Convention.

Corell claimed he was cut on his left hand and that two security guards at the event retrieved his camera from Smith.

Repairs to the camera cost $178 (£112), according to court documents.

Mos Def made his name as an underground rapper in the 1990s.

He has been nominated for Golden Globes and Emmys for his acting work, and presents HBO show Def Poetry.
