Baby boy for TV's Lowri
TV presenter Lowri Turner has given birth to her first child - a boy who weighed in at 8lbs 5oz.

The baby, called Griffin, was born at St Mary's Hospital in Paddington, London.

It is the first child for the 35-year-old, who presents BBC Two's Looking Good and DIY SOS on BBC1.

Turner's partner, Paul Connew, said: "Both mother and baby are doing well and there were no complications."


Washington in line for directorial debut

Hollywood star Denzel Washington is set to make his directorial debut.

The Oscar-winning actor will direct and appear in The Antwone Fisher Story, says the Vibe website.

The film is about a young man who undergoes intensive therapy to avoid being thrown out of the Navy.

As well as directing, Washington will play the therapist in the movie.


Fonda's Nigerian documentary premiered

Hollywood actress Jane Fonda attended the premiere of a 14-minute film about young women in Nigeria which she researched and narrated for the United Nations.

Realities of Girls' Lives: How We Can Act Now is a documentary about the problems faced by young women in Nigeria.

It was unveiled at a private screening in New York attended by UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan.

They were joined by over 300 diplomats and women's rights activists.


Cocker unhappy with tax advert

Singer Joe Cocker has become embroiled in a row over an Australian government advert that uses one of his songs.

The government bought a licence to use Unchain My Heart and put it as a backing to an advert which promotes a new tax which is being introduced soon.

The British star is upset that the song has been used for political ends rather than purely for information purposes.

He is now demanding his name be removed from a credit line at the end of the ad.


Radiohead to tour in 10,000-seater tent

Rock band Radiohead are to stage their own tour in a huge tent to avoid dealing with corporate sponsors.

The group - known for their loathing of big business - are playing European and UK gigs in a 10,000 capacity tent.

According to their website, they have opted for the unusual venue "so they have control over their acoustics, and don't have to play in huge stadiums".

The band are expected to tour the UK in September or October.
