TV personality Les Dennis has teamed up with indie band the Wombats for a charity Christmas single.

The 54-year-old delivers a spoken-word introduction on the single Is This Christmas?

The entertainer became involved after hearing the band wanted a Liverpool celebrity to record the song with them.

The single is planned for release on December 15 in download format only with proceeds going to learning disabilities charity Mencap.

Ironic

Dennis said he had met the band during a Capital of Culture event in Liverpool and was "thrilled" to be taking part.

He said of his first meeting with the Wombats: "They were great and cool and I loved their music.

"They are a great Liverpool band - I think it's great that they have done this."

He also said the song gave people the chance to listen to a Christmas single that was new, describing it as "a real indie Christmas song", that was witty and ironic.

The Wombats debut UK album, A Guide to Love, Loss & Desperation reached number 11 in the album chart when it was released in 2007.
