Hollywood star Anne Hathaway has played down claims she could be in line for an Academy Award due to her starring role in family drama Rachel Getting Married.

The actress was speaking at the film's UK premiere in a rain-soaked Leicester Square in London.

Hathaway, 25, said the Oscar buzz surrounding her was "really cool" but insisted it was "a little premature to get excited about".

The film was highly acclaimed when it screened at the Venice Film Festival.

Troubled role

Hathaway, who arrived at the premiere dressed in a long blue gown, revealed she had almost fallen over when she arrived.

"I've been rained on and almost tripped on the red carpet," she laughed.

The star plays Kym in Rachel Getting Married, a troubled woman who returns from rehab to the family home for the wedding of her sister Rachel (Rosemarie DeWitt).

The actress will star in Bride Wars next year alongside Candice Bergen and Kate Hudson.

It has also been reported she will feature in Tim Burton's Disney version of Alice in Wonderland.
