League of Gentlemen stars Reece Shearsmith and Steve Pemberton have created a new comedy show for BBC Two.

Psychoville, which has been billed as a "dark character comedy mystery featuring the weird and the wonderful", will be broadcast next year.

Dawn French, Dame Eileen Atkins and Christopher Biggins will star alongside Shearsmith and Pemberton.

Characters include a blind Beanie collector and a one-handed clown who makes balloon animals with his hook.

Idiosyncratic

Each character has one in thing common - they have been sent an anonymous, black-edged card marked with the words: "I know what you didů"

Nicholas Le Prevost, Daisy Haggard, Debbie Chazen and Adrian Scarborough will also feature in the series.

Controller of BBC Two Roly Keating said League of Gentlemen had been the channel's "most talked about and idiosyncratic television comedies of recent years".

He added: "We're very happy indeed to welcome back Reece and Steve with their latest creation."
