Tickets for Oasis' forthcoming UK arena tour sold out within an hour of going on sale on Wednesday morning.

Fans jammed box office phone lines and venue websites to snap up the 180,000 tickets available for the 18 dates when the shows went on sale at 0900 BST.

Hundreds of fans also queued up at venues to secure their ticket.

By the end of the day, a pair of tickets for a Wembley Arena gig had sold for 410 on an auction site - more than four times their face value.

A spokesperson for the band said: "The demand for tickets this morning was just immense."

"All the ticket sites slowed down severely, but nothing crashed and the system worked very smoothly.

"We want to thank the fans for their patience and look forward to seeing you all at the shows."

The UK tour will follow the release the band's forthcoming new album Dig out Your Soul.

It is the second leg of a world tour and begins in Liverpool on 7 October and ends in Glasgow on 5 November.
