Danny Baker
Danny Baker has worked for Radio 1, Talk Radio and Virgin

Broadcaster Danny Baker is to become a regular host for BBC 5 Live's 606 football phone-in show.

Baker's appointment follows a stint in June when he hosted six of the post match programmes during Euro 2008.

He will join 606 regulars Alan Green, Spoony and Tim Lovejoy when he takes up his weekly show on Tuesday nights.

Baker, 51, who hosts his first programme on 16 September, said of his new job: "Just when I thought I was out, they pulled me back in."

'A bit different'

Speaking about his recent stint on the 606 show, BBC Baker said: "I turned back into the helpless craven football phone-in host they knew I would become.

"We don't read the back pages. We are the back pages!" he added.

Radio 5 Live's Commissioning Editor Jonathan Wall said: "He's fun, will provide something a bit different, and I'm sure he will keep his production team on its toes!"

The former NME journalist has previously worked for BBC 5 Live on two occasions in the 1990s.

He currently hosts the Danny Baker Show on BBC London on weekday afternoons.
