Former Dawson's Creek star Katie Holmes will return to the small screen, with a guest role in the comedy series Eli Stone, opposite Jonny Lee Miller.
"I went and I begged her," said former Dawson's Creek producer Greg Berlanti, who is co-creator of Eli Stone.
Holmes returned to acting with the film Mad Money earlier this year, following the birth of her daughter Suri with husband Tom Cruise in April 2006.
She is tipped to sing and dance in the Eli Stone role, set to air in October.
Despite featuring in films such as Batman Begins and Phone Booth, the actress remains best known for her five-year stint as Joey Potter in the hit TV series Dawson's Creek.
British actor Miller was previously married to Angelina Jolie

Berlanti called the 29-year-old "an incredible actress and a good friend".
He told the US Television Critics Association that he approached Holmes in the hope of boosting the show's audience.
"We really wanted to bring eyeballs to the show and do anything we could to get people talking about the show," said Berlanti.
Prophetic powers
The series, now in its second year, sees Trainspotting star Miller playing an lawyer who appears to acquire prophetic powers.
Holmes will also play a lawyer, in what reports suggest could be a recurring role.
Previous guest stars have included singer George Michael, who starred in the series' debut episode and may return in December.
Actress Maggie Gyllenhaal takes over from Holmes in the role of Rachel Dawes in this month's Batman sequel, The Dark Knight.
